Gender and nationality only, taken from the museum record where one exists and from Wikidata otherwise. Nothing is inferred from a name or a face, and no museum records race or ethnicity, so neither does this. The explore mix keeps every work by a man from Europe or its settler countries at about a third of its collection rate and lets no artist fill more than two slots of a page. Nobody is hidden: search, filters and links ignore the weighting. The policy is a checked-in file, d1/weights.json.
What kind of object
Artwork records are harvested from each museum’s documented open-access API or bulk dump. Public-domain counts reflect what each museum itself asserts.
